Life-cycle cost: why the cheapest unit is often the most expensive choice

Purchase price is usually the smallest part of the total. Energy, maintenance and replacement cycles decide what a building costs over the next 20 years.

When comparing alternatives we calculate life-cycle cost: investment, annual energy use, maintenance work and equipment lifetime. The result often changes the decision on heat recovery type, cooling source or fan sizing.

Calculations are based on the building's real operating schedule rather than average assumptions. A school, an office and a production hall of the same floor area can differ several times over in consumption.

The client receives a comparison in numbers — with payback periods and a sensitivity analysis against energy price changes, so the decision still holds years later.
